Extracts of Garcinia cambogia are widely promoted as dietary supplements suppressing appetite and supporting weight loss.

This method identifies the dried pericarp of the fruits of Garcinia gummi-gutta (L.) N. Robson by HPTLC fingerprint, and discriminates the fruits of Garcinia indica (Thouars) Choisy and Garcinia x mangostana L. The proposed method is adopted in USP41-N36 S1, USP Dietary Supplement Compendium 2019.
